讲座内容简介：

The main goal is to introduce the audience to the key concepts of combinatorial group theory: free groups, presentation of groups by generators and relations, free products, amalgamated free products and HNN-extensions. It is supposed to discuss some recent results, problems and current trends in this direction. Whenever possible, I will try to avoid cumbersome definitions and give more examples.
